SCIENTIFIC BACKGROUND:
Corey Ungaro is a Senior Scientist at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI). He joined GSSI in April of 2011 to provide global bioanalytical support for GSSI research, athlete service, innovation, and education groups. Corey would later move into a new role supporting Human Performance and Advanced Personalized Initiatives using his expertise in technology and human research to provide cutting edge personalized support and solutions backed by science to optimize the health, performance, and well-being of all individuals. Corey has provided support out in the field and has been an integral part in the development and evaluation of technology and innovation. Corey grew up in Wonder Lake, Illinois and attend Woodstock H.S. where he was a three-sport captain in football, wrestling, and track, and received the Athlete of the Year award and later inducted into the Woodstock Athletics Hall of Fame. He was fortunate enough to go on to participate in football and track while earning his BA in Biology at Augustana College. Corey then went on to Roosevelt University to earn his MS in Biotechnology and Chemistry. Corey finished his Ph.D. in Health and Human Sciences at Northern Illinois University while working for GSSI. Corey’s dissertation was on High School Student-Athlete Sleep, Physical Activity, and Dietary habits during a semester. In his free time, Corey likes to run 5Ks and half-marathons, play guitar and piano, and coach his kids up in all of their sports.
