Biography:
Dr. Jose Canlas is director of the Institute of Orthopedic Sports Medicine at the Minneapolois Sports Medicine Centre. He received his Bachelor’s degree and Doctor of Medicine from the University of the Philippines. Jose has been on the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Medical Commission since 1994, working on FIBA hydration guidelines with GSSI. From 1998 to 2008, Jose was the Medical Director of the Philippine Sports Commission, and from 2008 to 2018, Jose was chairman of the Institute of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine at St Luke’s Medical Centre. In addition, he was worked on the Executive board of the Philippines Olympic Committee, and is an Olympic Solidarity Lecturer. Jose has been a GSSI advisor since 1996, performing sweat tests on amateur and professional basketball players and tri-athletes since 1998. Jose continues to regularly lecture on hydration in various sports and medical conferences for GSSI.
